Hi,
I tend to prepare material before any processing, over time I've found it more efficient if trying for 'known' output, and certainly with Pvoc processes. As previously stated the source material can be so varied !

If i'm just exploring something, thats another matter & leaves room for serendipitous results, but even then there can often be a deal of to-ing and fro-ing to get the right result.
On a modern machine its pretty fast anyway... no setting the process off & going to bed theses days!

>Read as: "I want something that normalizes .ana files so that "pvoc synth" will never be out of range.

Like some sort of brickwall limiter?
Not to my knowledge, but someone else might have come up with a wrinkle.

Is there a reason why you don't wish to pre-prepare material?
I've been using Soundforge for all this for years, there's even a batch mode for many files. I would expect most audio editing software would do this nowadays

Regards
Simon

Hello Peter,
From experience I would tend to normalise files before using Pvoc, but it may be that only one or two samples go over. It might be worth running the synth process and listening to how bad the outcome is.
Pvoc will report any 'overs', some may not be (particularly) audible and can be fixed in a conventional editor.

All so dependent on source material!

Hope this helps
Simon

Have you tried 'Repair permissions' in Disc Utility app?

Fabulous !
Looking forward to this Xenakios.

I haven't had a load of CDP time recently, but did make a few really nice transformations with the previous Reaper plugin .
I particularly like the 'in place' function. The ability to drop the transformed file at the current point in the timeline  (& on a new track etc) is a great compositional tool.

PC Installation / Re: CDP7: Error analysing sound files with PVOC process
« on: February 13, 2015, 02:52:42 PM »

Simple answer 'wav' (no quotes)

From the PC installation notes pdf

Set Environment Variables (and Path) for Windows 2000/XP/VISTA and Windows 7 32-bit.
Go to Control Panel > System (Properties) > Advanced > Environment Variables
In the UPPER window, enter as NEW the variable name 'CDP_SOUND_EXT' and the value 'wav'

You should reboot after changing this.

Composition / Re: Tutorials and newbie

Hi,
Its not quite clear from your mail if you are following the tutorials using a dos box.
Assuming you are, the two parameters are just added at the end with a space in between.
The parameters they address in this prg is cyclecount & skipcycles

so
distort repeat input.wav output.wav 14 -c* -s*

where * is a number. which number is where the fun starts. Try 5 100

Check the distort repeat documentation for more info

Hello cyball,
The worksheets are oriented towards working with Soundshaper, so maybe its not so clear that
ana files are anaylsis files, you have to resythesise them.

Please check the pvoc documentation.

Works fine here,

Which Windows version?
Is it only Soundshaper that throws this error?

Have you got permissions set to read/write on your VMware folders & shared folders

This should probably be a new thread

The command to copy launchd.conf to /etc
sudo cp launchd.conf /etc
doesn't seem to work, whereas renaming launchd.conf to .launchd.conf & then this -
sudo cp .launchd.conf /etc/launchd.conf
does.
Tried this with & without the  '.'
Looks like your temporary command may be faulty also, which is what foxed me.

Ok, just solved it !
There is a small, but oh so important error in the 'ManualConfig.pdf' which doesn't set CDP_SOUND_EXT environment variable correctly
I'll report this to Richard D & document in Mac installation

Now, on with the show, - -this is working really nicely,

Thanks Xenakios!!!
