General Board / Re: CDP Library
« on: November 27, 2019, 01:44:31 PM »
This looks like a cool project! On which OS are you developing? I am still looking for help building CDP from git on 64bit Debian linux in another thread...
We are developing on Windows, but as Logan said ideally it should work cross-platform. We've only tried Windows so far though.

General Board / Has anyone made a big command line interface for CDP?
« on: October 01, 2019, 06:27:49 PM »
I'm sure people have made CLI tools for specific things, but I'm talking about a whole interface at the scale of the Sound Loom or Soundshaper? I'm currently developing my own CDP wrapper that will eventually be GUI but for now I'm just focusing on console, and it spurred this thought... I wonder if anyone's made a smart wrapper for navigating CDP experiments?

This process always either throws me errors or empty analysis files. I just wanted to see if anyone else has used this process successfully, I know it's one of the newer ones.

True that!

Ever since I got into cdp 2 years ago, the absence of specnu slice 5 has disappointed me, the idea of inverting the spectrum around a frequency excites me... such a tease lol

Yeah I can kinda hear/see what you're talking about now... not sure what the deal is exactly. I've definitely experienced a good amount of weird aliasing artifacts in the spectral processes before... part of me wonders if this could be fixed if maybe we had control over the window shape (PVOC only uses a Hamming window) though that may have absolutely nothing to do with anything, lol. Maybe setting a higher value for the window overlap parameter may do something? I think it's already 3 by default though, and the highest is 4, so idk. Very curious indeed.

And that is the spectrogram in Renoise, I have it open pretty much all the time now. On my laptop I use VB Cable (https://www.vb-audio.com/Cable/index.htm) which you can set the "Cable Input" as your primary output in system settings, then set "Cable Output" as a Line Input within Renoise, and this way you can monitor the spectrogram of whatever you're listening to, including any cdp stuff. I highly recommend! (on my home desktop I forego the VB Cable stuff because I have an 8 i/o interface which can do the same thing with less latency.)

(Oh yes, I just remembered you use Linux, so VB Cable prob isnt an option. You can prob do the same thing using JACK audio server though!)

Seems to me that it's working properly, all the partials are indeed contained under 3khz... I suppose it does sound slightly alias-y, but to know if there were artifacts for sure I'd have to hear the original sndfile, and what analysis settings you used.

This is a year late reply, but in case anyone else has this question as well - you dump those folders inside of the _cdprogs directory, not just their contents.

"sndinfo maxsamp" returns relevant information for this, I believe

General Board / Any others studying (or at least playing with) Sound Loom?
« on: September 17, 2019, 11:13:25 PM »
I've been toying with and learning CDP/Sound Loom on and off the past 2 1/2 years, but in the past month I've finally gotten to the tipping point where I use nearly all my free time now studying the Sound Loom. I was wondering if there's anyone else out there who is studying this interface! I'd just like to share thoughts with anyone who is, either in this thread or on Discord if you have it (my username is MixMastaCopyCat#3495)

Sound Loom is very wild and peculiar. It's so terribly unfriendly, but at the same time so packed with useful features.

I think one of the big overarching questions with this I've been looking to solve is "how do summon the data files of the right format to run this specific process?"
I used to naively assume that the specific forms of datafiles required by different processes each had processes that'd generate them.
Now I have learned that in fact, save some convenient cases like how peak extraction allows you to format the output for filter bank, most of the time you are expected to reorganize, convert and/or splice together the data in the table editor.
Luckily, the table editor is at least rather robust once you get digging into it.

I still have a very, very long way to go. Lots of nooks and crannies in this interface!

General Board / Re: SYNTH SPECTRA giving distorted output in Sound Loom

I am running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Here is a picture showing example values that would produce distorted output.

Mac installation / Re: Error during "Run process"
« on: February 20, 2018, 03:34:12 AM »
What is cdptest0.wav anyway?

cdptest0.wav is the name of the file Sound Loom creates when you run a process. It is either saved or is deleted once you leave the process page.
(afraid I can't help you as I don't use mac - just wanted to let you know)

General Board / SYNTH SPECTRA giving distorted output in Sound Loom
« on: February 19, 2018, 01:35:20 AM »
This is an interesting process, but for some reason the right channel comes out distorted almost every time. I've been playing with it for the past half our with a variety of parameter settings, but it's always distorted on the right channel for me. anyone else experience this?

General Board / snagged a copy of trevor wishart's "audible design"!
« on: February 10, 2018, 04:12:37 AM »
super excited for it to get here, mint condition with the booklet and CD. amazed I found a copy because it was sorta difficult to hunt down - his book "on sonic art" is more available it seems. for those that don't know, this book details the sonic compositional processes that CDP facilitates, I am very excited to dig in! has anybody read this book by chance?

Showcase / Re: my track with lots of cdp processing
« on: November 01, 2017, 09:40:45 PM »
This is great!

thank you!! :) not to self-deprecate or anything, but i'm quite critical of it looking back bc I feel my cdp usage was quite surface level, tbh. I hope to become more skilled and meticulous as I learn the software more. Ive been spending a lot of time lately learning to use the Sound Loom efficiently, exploring its facilities, and wow... becoming my FAVORITE front-end (Soundshaper is fun as well - Sound Loom is just more fleshed out, though perhaps not nearly as accessible in design as Soundshaper is, which I used for this track.) it has a learning curve and a lot is quirky and sorta counterintuitive, but once you catch on to its logic (and KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS!!) it actually gets VERY fun!
