General Board / Has anyone made a big command line interface for CDP?
« on: October 01, 2019, 06:27:49 PM »
I'm sure people have made CLI tools for specific things, but I'm talking about a whole interface at the scale of the Sound Loom or Soundshaper? I'm currently developing my own CDP wrapper that will eventually be GUI but for now I'm just focusing on console, and it spurred this thought... I wonder if anyone's made a smart wrapper for navigating CDP experiments?

General Board / Has TUNEVARY worked for ANYONE?
« on: September 27, 2019, 03:10:17 AM »
This process always either throws me errors or empty analysis files. I just wanted to see if anyone else has used this process successfully, I know it's one of the newer ones.

General Board / Any others studying (or at least playing with) Sound Loom?
« on: September 17, 2019, 11:13:25 PM »
I've been toying with and learning CDP/Sound Loom on and off the past 2 1/2 years, but in the past month I've finally gotten to the tipping point where I use nearly all my free time now studying the Sound Loom. I was wondering if there's anyone else out there who is studying this interface! I'd just like to share thoughts with anyone who is, either in this thread or on Discord if you have it (my username is MixMastaCopyCat#3495)

Sound Loom is very wild and peculiar. It's so terribly unfriendly, but at the same time so packed with useful features.

I think one of the big overarching questions with this I've been looking to solve is "how do summon the data files of the right format to run this specific process?"
I used to naively assume that the specific forms of datafiles required by different processes each had processes that'd generate them.
Now I have learned that in fact, save some convenient cases like how peak extraction allows you to format the output for filter bank, most of the time you are expected to reorganize, convert and/or splice together the data in the table editor.
Luckily, the table editor is at least rather robust once you get digging into it.

I still have a very, very long way to go. Lots of nooks and crannies in this interface!

General Board / SYNTH SPECTRA giving distorted output in Sound Loom
« on: February 19, 2018, 01:35:20 AM »
This is an interesting process, but for some reason the right channel comes out distorted almost every time. I've been playing with it for the past half our with a variety of parameter settings, but it's always distorted on the right channel for me. anyone else experience this?

General Board / snagged a copy of trevor wishart's "audible design"!
« on: February 10, 2018, 04:12:37 AM »
super excited for it to get here, mint condition with the booklet and CD. amazed I found a copy because it was sorta difficult to hunt down - his book "on sonic art" is more available it seems. for those that don't know, this book details the sonic compositional processes that CDP facilitates, I am very excited to dig in! has anybody read this book by chance?

I am not talking about FORMANT GET or SEE or GETSEE - those I understand.

My problem is trying to wrap my head around the exact differences between REPLACING, IMPOSING and VOCODING.

I have provided illustration for my experiment - through five different sounds. The 'source' sound, which is a strange drone produced by the BLUR process. The 'formant' sound, which is a clip of me speaking clearly. And then, the outputs for imposing, replacing, and vocoding the formant sound onto the source.

The formants were grabbed at the highest linear frequency-wise resolution.
The frequency domain is log scaled.

Impose:

Could anyone try explaining these to me? I'm probably just way overthinking it, but I'm quite obsessed with trying to develop a comprehensive, rigorous understanding of these processes.

Showcase / my track with lots of cdp processing

a majority of the processing in this was done with CDP (in Soundshaper) and arranged/edited in ableton live. some nice soundscapes in the first couple minutes from a party buzzer sample.

Composition / MIDI tuplet generator?
« on: July 11, 2017, 01:20:45 PM »
Does anyone know of a tool that can generate weird tuplets in a MIDI file? Obviously almost all DAWs/sequencers nowadays will support triplets, but I'm talking about any number of measure divisions, from quintuplets, to septuplets, etc. Been fixated on polyrhythm/polymeter stuff lately (5 against 7 has such a nice character) and manually doing the math and painstakingly sequencing out things like septuplets (with a good amount of trial and error) is quite tedious. Would just like something that generates basic midi files I can just import into live or something. Might just try making my own if nobody knows of anything like that.

Composition / Scaling envelope breakpoint files
« on: July 05, 2017, 05:26:31 AM »
I definitely do a good amount of doc diving, but decided I may as well utilize this forum -

I think it'd be very useful to use envelopes as breakpoint files for parameters in various processes. I do know you can create an envelope breakpoint file, I've managed that - of course, the values are all 0 to 1. Is there any utility I dont know of (perhaps specifically in Soundshaper) which facilitates the scaling of the values in the second column? just setting the min val and the max val and perhaps some other parameters (linear or exponential interpolation, etc). if there is a solution to this I am overlooking I'd appreciate a point in the right direction, because man that'd be SUPER duper useful! :)

(it's probably in that data editor, isnt it? I've been meaning to tackle that thing, looks very accommodating)

PC Installation / Soundshaper - can't use "edit at markers"

I really wish I could get edit at markers working <:( every time I go to paste I get this error (even when just lowering the volume by 3 db)

General Board / Gotta drop some love for this documentation
« on: April 29, 2017, 08:49:53 AM »
Seriously!! I've been getting into CDP in short obsessive bursts the past few months, and I've recently found myself finally giving that documentation a real deep dive, and I am so incredibly appreciative of the depth! These guys really left no stone unturned here. Much love!! :)

(semi-unrelated, but also super appreciative of microsoft bringing bash to windows 10 lol)
