Hardware Discussions / Portable Audio Interface for Linux
« on: May 18, 2016, 05:13:38 PM »
I've been looking to purchase a decent audio interface for my Libreboot'd X200 laptop, and wanted something that worked in Linux without proprietary drivers, had decent converters, live input monitoring, and digital I/O.  I seem to have nailed it with the Sound Devices USBPre 2 (http://www.sounddevices.com/products/portable-audio-tools/usbpre2).  it is targeted primarily for remote recording applications, and so despite its excellent ADCs, it is fully bus powered.  Even with Slackware Linux, my experience setting it up was literally plug & play!  it wouldn't be my first choice for low-latency recording/mixing with plugins (if that's your thing).  But if reliable, unfettered operation and quality sound "on the go" are your thing, I really recommend it.  I wish other audio hardware was so thoughtfully considered.

General Board / Latest CDP Source?
« on: September 26, 2015, 10:08:28 PM »
Hi,

Where can the (very) latest CDP sources be found?  I recall there being a git repository or sourceforge project talked about on this forum, but not sure I was ever able to track it down.

General Board / Changing WORKSPACE Location in Sound Loom
« on: June 29, 2015, 11:38:22 AM »
I recently acquired a fancy new desktop with a high-speed SSD "scratch" disk, and it'd be nice for files in Sound Loom's WORKSPACE to live on this drive instead of where the Sound Loom executable happens to be located (e.g., C:\Users\<username>\CDP7\_cdp\).

Is there a way to change SL's WORKSPACE directory?  (In Soundshaper, at least, this is easily accomplished by changing the "Temp" directory in the Environment settings.)

Announce / FYI: Sound Loom 17.0.0
« on: November 24, 2014, 09:36:39 AM »
As an "official" announcement may not be forthcoming on this forum, I want to tip off fellow CDP users who might not have noticed: Trevor recently posted a new version of Sound Loom on his website for both PC and Mac.

http://www.trevorwishart.co.uk/slfull.html

An unusual addition to this version of SL is the inclusion of Physical Modelling for several brass instruments based on the work of the NESS project (http://www.ness-music.eu/).  Models for other instruments are likely forthcoming.  Some of you will appreciate that the installation of the PM functionality is entirely optional--the functionality doesn't even show up in SL unless the appropriate files in the Loom Data Pack are placed in your _cdprogs folder.

Does anyone know if Sound Loom is to be released for Linux at some point?

With a stock install of CDP R7 on Windows 7 64-bit, even simple interrogation of commands ABFPAN, ABFPAN2, ABFDCODE, FASTCONV, REVERB, RMVERB, RMRESP, RMSINFO from the CMD prompt will bring up the following System Error dialog:

"The program can't start because libgcc_s_dw2-1.dll is missing from your computer.  Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

At least on my system, these programs do not run at all.  (I do not have a MinGW environment.)
