Release 7.0 functions missing (eg. in specnu)?
« on: August 21, 2019, 07:21:36 PM »
Hi,
The documentation for CD release 7.0 for SPECNU mention the functions RAND and SQUEEZE, but the 7.1 Linux release on unstablesound.net seems to contain the 6.1.0 version without these functions. Also specnu.c contains a line referring to cdp_version 6.1.0.

I am confused, is this a mistake or have these functions moved somewhere else?

Thanks for all hints!
P

You're quite correct: the version of specnu released in 2016 does not seem to have the options rand or squeeze, and specnu slice mode 5 has also disappeared.  These were all present in Release 7.0 in Feb. 2014, but have somehow got lost in the 7.1 upgrade. Rand randomises the order of windows, giving a flutter effect, squeeze reduces the frequency range, altering the timbre, while slice 5 inverts the spectrum, creating dramatically different (usually inharmonic) frequency content. All useful functions which would enhance the CDP suite if they could be restored -- please?

Ever since I got into cdp 2 years ago, the absence of specnu slice 5 has disappointed me, the idea of inverting the spectrum around a frequency excites me... such a tease lol

My impression is that this issue is know to the CDP team and that they are preparing a new release. Not sure about the time frame though, but all of their efforts are always very appreciated, let's not forget this is a GPL project, and everyone could contribute to the code.

Nevertheless it would be great to get some feedback or even fixes from the CDP authors eventually.

A new CDP release is being planned and it includes a revised SPECNU with RAND, SQUEEZE and SLICE 5 as documented, plus two new functions. As we will be looking for testers soon, I suggest you write to Archer and ask if you can test this revised version.

Thanks Robert,
you might want to post the request for testers to the mailing list [1] as well.

Is that new release identical to the codebase on
https://github.com/ComposersDesktop/CDP7
?

cheers, P
